What Stays

What Stays explores the psychology of memory and human connection by honoring moments that might otherwise be overlooked, forgotten, or incomplete. Through painting, these fragments of time resurface and are transformed by the act of creation. This body of work explores the process of remembering, drawing on familial histories, translating remembrance into a visual language, and fostering a dialogue between identity, legacy, and the quiet weight of everyday life.

Each piece revisits the past as it is continually rewritten by fading memory and the subtle distortions left by time. This series is grounded in abstraction and emotional resonance rather than literal narrative. I know a work is complete when I feel a sense of detachment from the moment it holds, when the memory fades into black and white, like a dream drained of color. These paintings become the skins of my memory: faceless, eyeless, featureless - existing only through the lingering feeling of recognition.

What Stays reflects on nostalgia and empathy, transforming personal recollection into a shared meditation on the delicate persistence of memory. This body of work reflects the weight of personal history and the fragility of memory, reminding me to honor each moment before it fades, uncertain of who will remember when it’s gone.
